Govt extends travel ban to South Korea

The Morrison Government has expanded the travel ban for foreign travellers to include South Korea as it attempts to further slow down the spread of COVID-19 in Australia.

Giving an update on the situation in Canberra, Prime Minister Scott Morrisons said the decision to add South Korea to the list, and not Italy, was due to the high numbers of travellers from the nation.

Enhanced screening measures will be implemented for those arriving from Italy.

“In relation to Korea, the reason we have taken this decision is because of the high level of visitation we are seeing from Korea then we have seen come from Italy,” Mr Morrison said.

“So that ban is put in place because it affords the best protection and enables us to slow down the rate of transmission.”
